Bletchley Park Winter Lectures

Bletchley Park Trust is running its acclaimed winter lecture series, offering a range of fascinating talks about World War Two and Bletchley Park. From the founding of M16 to the Battle of the Atlantic, there is a talk to suit all interests. All the lectures will be held in the atmospheric surroundings of the Bletchley Park Mansion.
Bletchley Park will also once again be joining with the Projected Picture Trust for the Annual Film Show in its 1940’s style cinema.

The Safe and Timely Arrival of Convoy SC 130 15th, 24th May 1943 – Dr Dennis Haslop. The convoy signalled the turning point in the battle of the Atlantic when organisation and technological developments confronted the u-boats with a naval rout that caused unsustainable losses in personnel.
Lectures will commence at 7.30p.m and the mansion is open from 6.30p.m. We will endeavour to have a selection of articles from the Trust’s shop available in the Mansion before and after our lectures. The ticket price includes coffee and biscuits after the lecture.
The ticket price includes a glass of wine, orange juice or coffee after the lecture.
Single lecture £10.00
Season ticket for all six lectures £50.00

Drumming Workshops – Beginners Conga

Course fee £32
For anyone new to hand drumming or interested in finding out more about conga drumming or Latin-American rhythms. We’ll look at basic techniques – including palm/finger movements and hand shapes for producing open tones, bass tones and slap, exercises for developing tone, independence and coordination. We’ll look at some Brazillian and Cuban rhythms, with parts for 1, 2 & 3 drums and how the individual lines fit together with bell patterns and the ‘clave’ rhythm. Ravin 'Raz' Jayasuriya is a professional percussionist and award winning tutor with over 20 years experience specialising in Cuban and Brazilian music. Conga drums kindly provided by Natal Percussion.

Singer-songwriter Emily Baker is a passionate and honest storyteller with flashes of eccentric chat between songs, taking a slice of real life and serving it up with a melody. Emily released her debut album House of Cards to critical applause in 2011, touring with Chris Difford, Beth Rowley, Amy Wadge, Jon Allen and Gabriella Cilmi. Schoolmate Pete Doherty cited her as the person who first influenced him to pick up a guitar and she supported him at Bournemouth Opera House and the Hackney Empire. With new songs to share and a new chapter to start, Emily is thrilled to be invited to play at The Stables.
